Marathon Will Lead To Four-Hour Bridge Closure In Suffolk County

Motorists have been advised that there will be a four-hour closure on the Smith Point Bridge over the weekend for the annual triathlon.

The Suffolk County Police Department issued an alert cautioning that from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Smith Point Bridge will be closed for the Smith Point Triathlon.

During the bridge closure, there will also be no access to the beach.

The Smith Point Triathlon starts at Smith Point County Park, with a 500-meter Narrow Bay swim, then continues on to a 16K (9.7 miles) bike ride over the Smith Point Bridge to Wertheim National Refuge and back, followed by a 5K (2.9 miles) run over the bridge that ends in the ocean.
